Toyota Earns More ‘Top Safety Pick’ Awards for 2012 Models Than Any Other Automaker               

Toyota, Lexus and Scion earned a total of 15 “Top Safety Pick” awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), more than any other automaker for model-year 2012, the IIHS announced today.

The 15 award-winning models are: Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Prius, Prius v, Sienna, Tundra (crew cab models), Venza and Yaris (4-door hatchback); Lexus CT 200h and RX; and Scion tC, xB and xD.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., said, “Safety is a core value that dates back to the foundation of our company.  IIHS’ awards further recognize our commitment to helping protect drivers and passengers.”

The award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rollover and rear crashes based on ratings in Institute evaluations, IIHS said.  The ratings, which cover four common kinds of crashes, help shoppers pick vehicles that offer the highest levels of crash protection.

DID YOU KNOW? - Toyota Is 2011’s Most Researched Auto Brand on Kelley Blue Book Website

Kelley Blue Book says more car shoppers researched Toyota vehicles on the kbb.com website than any other auto brand in 2011.  Toyota retained the top spot for the year with a 14.2 percent share, followed by Ford at 13.5 percent, Honda at 12.8 percent, Chevrolet at 11.5 percent, and Hyundai at 7.5 percent.
